... Borron Street, Stockport, illegal pavement parking capital of the UK. This is congestion central for drivers trying to reach local busuinesses on this impassable two-way street. Well done Stockport MBC and the local police farce who have decreed Borron Street a no-go area for their staff.

After two years of continuous and dogged campaigning the council have finally submitted, nay surrended, to the relentless pressure. Albeit in a half-hearted way, bless them. They have layed down double yellow lines on one side only and lo and behold they have layed them either side of an illegally pavement parked car! What a farce, they should join farces with the police. This totally sums up how apathetic the people who run this council are. You couldn't make it up.
Yes folks, in the weeks running up to the local elections, Executive Councillor for Transport Dave 'The Silent One' Goddard thought he'd try and score some brownie points by issuing a Road Traffic Order for double yellow lines on one side of, one side Dave?, Borron Street Portwood, Stockport the UK capital of illegal pavement parking.
Trouble is, he thought he'd do the right thing and try and save council-tax payers a few bob. Did he? you ask. He sure did, he hired Bodget & Scarper and as a result he swapped illegal parking for illegal road markings. They stopped and started around illegal parkers hence we have two long gaps leaving the yellow lines in sections. Councillor Goddard we want to know why you spent council-tax money on fixing a problem that is inherently a police matter, who incidently are also complicit in this farce.
"It is only fair that, for all the criticism I give to Stockport Council over illegal pavement parkingall over Portwood (that they and the police aid and abet), I should also give credit and report the positive things that happen. Succumbing to relentless pressure in the run up to election day, thaey have acted.
Two weeks ago, one side of Borron Street had a visit from the double yellow line layers. Unfortunately, the credit stops there. The visitation was from Bodget & Scarper, sent by our very own councillor for transport Dave Goddard. Keeping with his comical bent, lines were laid whilst there were still illegally parked vehicleson the pavement, so the line layers worked around the vehicles, leaving two huge gapsand broken lines; hence, he swapped illegal parking for illegal road markings. Cue Laurel and Hardy theme tune.
I would like to ask the councillor why he decided to spend council-tax payers' moneyto rectify a problem that, in law, is a police matter. Chief Supt. Wain must be whooping and dancing down Europa Way like a Banshee now that the council has decided to his job for him. Result hey, Commander?
I have never advocated that these people should be moved on, only to park legally, because they only move the problem elsewhere, as in the case when the streets around Tesco were blanket yellow-lined, they moved on and saturated residential Portwood.
Why not install revenue inducing meters with a maximum £5 for all-day parking as opposed to £7 in the only safe town centre car park on New Bridge Lane? On this basis, my calculator tells me that Mersey and Borron Streets would generate a minimum £3,000 per week with the level of parking that takes place at this time. At a stroke, no illegal activity, the police can lift their no-g- area decreeand, well I go away. Everybody wins councillor.
Pssst, Dave, there are some die-hard illegalparkers that are well aware that these lines, as they sit, are not enforceable, because they are still at it."
... sight but what a farce Stockport MBC has made of this important landmark. We have campaigned relentlessly to rid the streets of Portwood, especially Mersey and Borron, of illegal pavement parking. Under cover of the night, and without fanfare, the contractors piled in en masse, but hey, what happened?
